Group Critical Illness Cover

Why choose Legal & General?

  • Legal & General is one of the market leaders in the group critical illness cover market
  • Our expertise was recognised when we won the Group Critical Illness provider award at the Cover Excellence Awards 2007 and 2008.

How it works

  • We can pay a lump sum benefit for an employee who suffers and meets the definition of one of the specified critical conditions.
  • We can provide cover for employers with a group of 50 or more employees
  • Cover can cost from as little as 1% of payroll. The employer can offset the cost of the premiums against profits for tax purposes.
  • The employer chooses the level of cover. Normally this will be based on a multiple of salary or a fixed amount. Our maximum is the lesser of four times earnings and £500,000.
  • We include free cover for children. For an extra cost, cover can be included for the employee’s spouse or registered civil partner.
  • The policy gives you the flexibility you need. All employees could be included, or all employees within a stated category or group, for example, all managers and admin staff.
  • Benefits paid to employees won’t be subject to income tax. Premiums paid by the employer will be treated as a ‘benefit in kind’ for employees earning  (including the value of all benefits in kind) more than £8,500 a year.
  • We’ll normally cover benefit up to a certain amount (the free limit) without the need for employees to provide any medical evidence. Employees with benefit above the free limit will normally need to fill in a Member’s Declaration form before we can provide full cover.
