Buildings Insurance: what's covered
Legal & General's Buildings Insurance insures your home against all the usual risks such as fire, storm, flood and subsidence. It also covers less common causes of damage, such as theft, vandalism, or damage to your property caused by vehicle collision.
With our Buildings Insurance, homes with five bedrooms or less are automatically covered up to £500,000. If rebuilding your home would cost more, or if you have between six and nine bedrooms or a flat or maisonette, please call us for a quote.
Our Buildings Insurance also includes, at no extra cost:
- Home Emergency Cover Covers call-out charges, labour and parts up to £150 for certain emergency repairs for example, if your toilet is blocked or a pipe bursts. Available 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. This cover is provided by Europ Assistance Insurance Services.
- Trace and Access cover Covers the cost of tracing the source of water or oil leak and repairing wall, floors and ceilings damaged during the investigations up to £5,000.
- Legal Helpline For expert advice on all kinds of domestic legal problems you can call the 24-hour Legal Helpline.
- Domestic Emergency Helpline Call the 24-hour Domestic Emergency Helpline if, for example, your roof is damaged or a pipe bursts. We'll find the nearest suitable tradesperson and arrange a convenient time for them to call and give you an estimate.
- Legal & General Extra A programme giving you special benefits on a range of items, including holidays and household appliances, after a qualifying period.
- Payment Protection If you are working and become unable to work for 30 days or more because of an accident, sickness or unemployment, we'll take care of your monthly premiums for up to twelvemonths. On the other hand, if when you take out the policy you are retired, not working and under the age of 85 you can claim Premium Protection if you suffer a personal injury.
Contents Insurance: what's covered
Legal & General's Contents Insurance insures the contents of your home against all the usual risks, such as fire, theft, storm and flood. We settle claims on a replacement as new basis - except for clothes that are more than two years old, where we will make a deduction for wear and tear.
With our Contents Insurance, if you have more than five bedrooms, or you feel the cover limits available are too little to replace your possessions as new then please call us for a quote.
Our Contents Insurance automatically includes at no extra cost:
- Business Equipment Cover This includes fax machines, printers, computers, modems, monitors, keyboards, word processors, telecommunications and computer-aided design equipment and office furniture. Cover is up to 10 per cent of the total amount of your contents sums insured.
- Lock Replacement Up to £500 to replace locks if keys are stolen.
- Special Events Cover A temporary increase of 10 per cent on your contents sum insured during the period of one month before and one month after a special event or religious festival.

- Contents temporarily removed from your home It will provide automatic cover up to 15% of the contents sum insured. For example it will provide automatic cover for full time student's belongings while they are living away from home in another building, subject to policy terms and conditions.
Additional cover options
You can add any of the following options to your Legal & General Home Insurance Policy:
- Family Legal ProtectionThis covers costs and expenses incurred in pursuing or defending certain types of legal action in the U.K. There's a limit of £50,000 for each claim.
- Personal Possessions (for policies including Contents Insurance only) This provides cover for personal property and valuables away from the home. Cover applies anywhere in the UK and for up to 60 days elsewhere in any one year. You can choose to insure:
- Unspecified Personal Property - Clothes, personal belongings and valuables individually worth up to £1,500. Loss of personal money up to £500 is also included.
- Specified Personal Possessions - covers single articles valued at, near to or above £1,500.
- Pedal Cycles - covers loss or damage to pedal cycles up to £500 per cycle. If the value exceeds this amount additional information will be required.
- Accidental Damage You can also increase the level of Accidental Damage cover already included in your policy for an additional premium.
