It’s not nice to think you could suffer an accident or illness that prevents you from working, or a critical illness that has a severe impact on your lifestyle, but it can happen to anyone at any time.
We have two types of insurance, Income Protection Benefit and the Family and Personal Income Plans, that could help you and your family if it did happen to you. Please click on the links below for more information about the plans.
Income Protection benefit is designed to help protect your income and your family financially if you can’t work due to incapacity caused by illness or injury that results in a loss of earnings.
It provides cover until your policy ends no matter how many claims you make. We will pay you the income protection benefit monthly for as long as the claim is valid, until the policy ends or you die. Alternatively you can choose to keep the cost down by choosing the low cost option where the income protection benefit is paid monthly for a period of up to 5 years then the policy ends.
Also flexible deferment periods are offered to match your employment sick pay, these are 4, 13, 26 or 52 weeks enabling you to choose when you start receiving your monthly income protection benefit. You need to select one of these but choosing a longer deferment period can reduce the cost of the policy.
The income protection benefit can be used however you like – from helping to pay medical expenses, general household bills or towards covering your monthly mortgage payments.
While tax and national insurance are deducted from your normal income, they won't be deducted from the income protection benefit we pay out monthly.

The Family and Personal Income Plans are designed to help protect you and your family financially if you die or are diagnosed with one of the specified critical illnesses (if chosen) during the policy term. They are different from Life and Critical Illness insurance plans that pay out a lump sum, as these will pay out a monthly benefit until the end of the policy term, rather than a cash lump sum. You can choose between either:
The monthly benefit can be used however you like – from helping to pay for medical expenses, child-care costs, towards covering your monthly mortgage payments and bills or as an income for your family if you were to die.
