Funeral benefit option.

Get an extra £250 towards your funeral costs with the Funeral Benefit Option

Choosing this option is a sensible and practical way of planning for your future, and it also spares your family from unexpected expense and additional worry at an emotional time.

If you're buying our Fixed or Increasing Over 50s Life Insurance Plans, you can choose to add the Funeral Benefit Option when you apply. This means that your cash sum is paid directly to our chosen funeral service provider, Dignity and for doing this you'll get an extra £250 towards your funeral costs with a Dignity Funeral Director

Your family will be in good hands with Dignity

We’ve teamed up with Dignity to bring you the Funeral Benefit Option. They’re one of the UK’s leading providers of funeral services, with a network of over 560 experienced funeral directors – many of whom have served their local communities for generations.

  • More than 480,000 people have taken out a funeral plan with Dignity
  • In 2010, Dignity conducted around 64,000 funerals in the UK*.

When the time comes your family will only have to make one phone call to Dignity to activate the Funeral Benefit Option.  Your loved ones can rely on their expertise to ensure your funeral goes just the way you planned and they will be treated with all the care and compassion they deserve.

How it works

  • By choosing to 'charge' the cash sum from your policy to Dignity, you'll receive an extra £250 on top of your cash sum amount. The 'charge' means that you agree to using a Dignity Funeral Director. Legal & General will then pay your cash sum directly to Dignity when you die, rather than your estate.
  • If the cost of the funeral is greater than the cash sum from your plan plus the extra £250 funeral benefit, then your estate or next of kin will need to pay the difference.
  • If the cash sum plus the extra £250 funeral benefit is greater than the cost of a funeral, the difference will be paid to your estate by Legal & General and may be subject to Inheritance Tax.
  • If you decide that you no longer want your plan 'charged' to Dignity you can choose to remove the charge by contacting Dignity. If the charge is removed and a payment is made to your estate, this could be subject to Inheritance Tax.
