The Funeral Plan

The Funeral Plan

"I want to ensure my funeral costs are covered"

Taking out a Funeral Plan is a sensible and practical way of planning for the future.

Taking out a plan today is a way of helping to protect your family against rising funeral costs and the possible delays of getting money from your estate. The Over 50s Funeral Life Insurance Plan ensures that the costs of a traditional cremation funeral will be paid directly by us to Dignity, a funeral service provider. They will then arrange the funeral through their network of funeral directors. If you prefer to have a burial then the plan will provide a contribution towards your funeral costs.

The Funeral Plan - at a glance

  • Guaranteed acceptance to UK residents aged 50 to 80 and no medical when you apply.
  • You need to pay the premiums until you die. However, if you reach your 90th birthday, you stop paying premiums but your cover continues for the rest of your life.
  • If you stop paying premiums when they are due the plan will be cancelled and you won't get anything back.
  • The plan has no cash-in value at any time.
  • Depending on how long you live the total premiums paid may be greater than the benefit payable on death.
  • After two years we'll pay the benefit of the plan directly to Dignity regardless of the cause of death. Dignity will arrange a traditional cremation funeral or use the benefit as a contribution towards the cost of a burial.
  • If you die within the first two years of your plan we will not pay the benefit but we will return all the premiums paid. However, if you die as a result of an accident, then the full benefit will be paid back to your estate. Exclusions and limitations apply, please refer to the Policy Summary PDF for details.
  • Your benefit will be reviewed each year.
  • Your premium will also be reviewed each year and will increase 1.5% for every 1% increase in your benefit.
  • Your can choose to decline the opportunity to review your benefit and premium when we write to you each year. Once you have declined this review you will not be able to restart the increases and your benefit and premium will remain fixed at its value at that time.
  • You can take out more than one Over 50s plan as long as the total of your premiums added together are not more than £50 a month. This includes any existing Legal & General Over 50s plans you may have.
  • You can only take out one Funeral Plan.

Reassurance for you and your family

The Funeral Plan ensures that all funeral arrangements included in the plan are taken care of so your loved ones won't have to worry about it when the time comes. If you have any specific wishes for your funeral service itself, such as a favourite hymn or reading, you can let Dignity know.

When the time comes, your family simply needs to make one phone call to set your plans in motion, removing the worry of finding a funeral director and deciding on the most appropriate arrangement.

What's more, we will pay the plan benefit directly to Dignity when the time comes, so your family doesn't have to pay for your funeral if your estate is delayed in probate.
