We are one of the UK’s strongest insurance companies

We have a strong regulatory capital balance sheet with surplus Solvency II capital of £5.7 billion (as at year end 2016) and a well-diversified investment portfolio. We operate one of the largest balance sheets in the UK annuity market and are rated AA- by Standard & Poor’s, Aa3 by Moody’s and AA- by Fitch (as at August 2016).

We are an experienced and trusted counterparty

We have insured over 3,000 pension schemes and provide income and security in retirement to over 1 million people (as at March 2017). We have a strong execution and implementation track record. In 2016 we wrote £6.3 billion of UK bulk annuity business including the £3 billion Aegon back-book transaction in May and the £1.1 billion Vickers Group Pension Scheme buyout in November.

We will look after your members

We pride ourselves on the high level of service that we deliver to our customers. We do not outsource our administration functions to third parties and value the direct relationships that we have with our customers.

In December 2015, our pension risk transfer administration team received an Ipsos MORI Net Promoter Score (NPS) of +18. The survey highlighted high levels of satisfaction with the accuracy and timeliness of payments received. Our overall NPS is one of the highest scores in the insurance and pensions industry.

We are committed to the pension risk transfer market

We were one of the first bulk annuity providers in the UK and have worked with trustees and companies for over 30 years to better secure and protect their members’ benefits. Our business forms an important part of Legal & General’s overall growth strategy and is a key component of our ambition to continue to be a long term investor in projects that are both socially and economically useful.

Award-winning business

Our pension risk transfer business is multi award-winning and we are proud to have received numerous industry accolades over many years.

Socially and economically useful investments

We back our annuity book by investing in areas such as housing, infrastructure and urban regeneration that will be the foundation of our future economic growth. Across our group we have made £10 billion in direct investments as part of a commitment to invest £15 billion.
