Legal & General’s sponsorship of the International Longevity Centre (ILC-UK) website
Legal & General is one of the UK’s leading financial services companies. We are one of the UK’s top 50 companies in the FTSE 100 Index and over 5.75 million people rely on us for life assurance, pensions, investments and general insurance plans. The Legal & General Group is responsible for investing over £237 billion worldwide (as at 31 December 2006) on behalf of investors, policyholders and institutions.
As well as providing products for its customers to save for retirement, Legal & General is also a leading provider of pension annuity contracts. These contracts convert a customer’s pension savings into a guaranteed income stream, normally for the rest of their lifetime. A key element in determining the income amount payable to our customers is a robust understanding of each customer’s life expectancy. We therefore have similar motivation to the ILC to understand how medical science, lifestyle and demographic changes are impacting population longevity.
ILC-UK's aim is to widen understanding of the social, economic and cultural consequences of enhanced longevity and as a result the lifestyle implications of increased life expectancy. Longevity is no longer simply an issue of ageing and includes aspects such as how we prepare ourselves mentally and physically as well as financially to lead and enjoy our lives as we live through our sixties, seventies, eighties, nineties and beyond.
With Legal & General, a leader in the annuity market, we are delighted to be associated with the ILC-UK and in particular the sponsorship of their new website.
