Switching to us.

Switching an existing group risk policy to us is quick and easy.

We’ll normally provide cover on the same basis for existing members, which means we can match the previous insurer’s benefit level and terms. It also means we won’t normally need to medically underwrite members whose benefit level is above the free limit.

The cost may not necessarily be the same and can go up.

We’ll need full details of all cover for scheme earnings or benefit that exceeds our free limit of all cover where benefit could exceed our free limit, or where cover with the previous insurer has special terms attached. We won’t normally ask for medical evidence for an existing member if their cover with the previous insurer was for their full benefit entitlement as long as they meet our standard switch terms.

We’ll usually provide cover for these members on the same terms and benefit levels, but not necessarily at the same cost, as the previous insurer. To do this, we’ll need to receive a copy of the insurer’s latest letter of acceptance or a completed declaration – switch terms. We can’t normally provide cover until we receive one of these.

If we’re given full details, we’ll consider the switch terms even where cover is below a member’s full benefit entitlement and the previous insurer’s terms don’t fall within our standard switch terms.

When we don't normally need medical evidence

As long as cover with the previous insurer was for the full benefit entitlement.
The cover was accepted with no special terms or with an extra premium of up to 100% of the normal premium.
The acceptance terms were given within the three years before the transfer of cover.
The total value of benefit is not higher than the lesser of £250,000 or the free limit

When we'll need medical evidence

We might need medical evidence for increases to this cover, but this will depend on the previous insurer’s acceptance terms. If we accept cover with no special terms attached or for loadings of up to 50%, we won’t need medical evidence for a benefit increase until the earliest of:

When the member’s benefit level is more than the free limit offered.
Where cover is accepted with special terms applied under our switch terms. The first benefit increase above the cover accepted by the previous insurer, which we’ve confirmed with special terms under our switch terms..
