I'm getting a 'runtime error' message, how can I fix this?

If the runtime error message says "Object library invalid or contains references to object definitions that could not be found" this error can happen after installing a Windows security update (MS08-070). The Windows update installs new versions of some Visual Basic 6.0 runtime files. There's a corresponding EXD file that is created for each of the runtime files when they are used. When the runtime files are updated, these EXD files become invalid and this error occurs.

To fix this problem, you'll need to delete the EXD files that are created and they will automatically be recreated as and when needed.

On Windows XP, these files have the extension ".EXD" e.g. MSComCtl2.EXD. They are usually located in:
C:\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\Application Data\Microsoft\Forms\

And on Windows Vista/7:
C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Forms\

Please note, some folders may be hidden, so you may need to run a search for EXD files.
