About Group Critical Illness cover

Our Group Critical Illness Cover is designed to pay out a tax-free lump sum if an insured employee is diagnosed with a specified critical illness or condition and survives for 14 days. Giving employees living with the consequences of critical illness and surgery some often much needed financial breathing space.

In addition to financial support, our cover also provides access to specialist advice every step of the way, providing practical, emotional and medical support whenever it’s required.

Why Legal & General

Our Group Critical Illness Cover has been built to be as comprehensive as possible, with all of our valuable product features and services as standard. We wanted to remove the need for optional added cost bolt-ons, so you can be confident your clients are fully supported.

  • Extensive conditions covered – cover up to 41 conditions with 15 as standard and a further 26 can be added at an additional cost.
  • Children’s cover – as standard from birth to 21 years of age for eligible children, for all conditions of insured employee. There’s a further six child only conditions included at no extra cost.
  • Cancer cover – second and subsequent cancer diagnoses as standard.
  • Added support in partnership with MEDIGO – Second Medical Opinion, Nurse Support Service and Medical Concierge, all at no extra cost.
  • Easy to set up - most employees can be insured without the need for lengthy medical underwriting. We do this by applying a pre-existing and related condition exclusion.
  • Quick payment – Claims normally paid within five days, once we’ve received the information we need. Average pay-out in 2019, £63,306.

1. Second Opinion

The Second Opinion service provides insured employees and their immediate families with access to a global network of medical specialists. The specialist will offer second opinions on diagnoses and treatments for almost any condition, allowing the insured to understand the potential impact of their condition and evaluate the most appropriate clinical pathway for their needs. Second Opinion helps to:

  • Avoid unnecessary treatments
  • Improve treatment outcomes
  • Provide peace of mind
  • Empower individuals to make informed choices on their healthcare

Typical specialities covered are Oncology, Neurosurgery, Orthopaedics, Cardiology, Gynaecology, and Paediatrics.

A MEDIGO Second Opinion offers a complete written evaluation of a patient’s medical history and diagnosis based on their available medical reports; diagnostic imaging, test results, etc.

A specialist doctor (or a team of specialist doctors) from a leading medical institution with expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of the specific disease will either confirm the diagnosis and/or treatment plan or recommend a different diagnosis and/or alternative treatment plan(s) based on the latest advances in modern medicine and global standards of treatment for your condition.

To access the Second Medical Opinion service, employees can call 020 3871 8760 or by registering online by visiting our portal page.
