Healthy ageing includes any product or service that helps people remain active, productive, independent and socially connected for longer during their lifetime.
The Centre for Ageing Better charity has developed a framework to stimulate thinking in this area. In particular, seven themes have been identified:
- Sustaining physical activity
- Maintaining health at work
- Design for age-friendly homes
- Creating healthy, active places
- Supporting social connections
- Living well with cognitive impairment
- Managing common complaints of ageing.
We’ll be investing directly in businesses we believe can make a positive difference to healthy ageing. In addition, grant funding is available as part of the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund.
The Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund is a UK government initiative, set up to invest in organisations that tackle the major challenges we face today. One of the areas the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund has identified is healthy ageing.
UK Research and Innovation, a public body funded by the UK government, is responsible for managing the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund. It has selected us to allocate £6 million in grant funding to companies promoting healthy ageing.
We will be working with Innovate UK, part of UK Research and Innovation, to evaluate all applications.
"We look forward to putting the grant funding, alongside our own capital, to work to enhance our society and create meaningful solutions for an ageing demographic.”
