What is Family Legal Protection?
Our Family Legal Protection gives you and your loved ones cover for various legal issues.
You can add to your peace of mind when you take out our Buildings and/or Contents Insurance with our Family Legal Protection cover, which gives you and your loved ones the reassurance of legal expenses insurance of up to £50,000.
Our Gold policy includes this cover as standard and you can add on this cover with our Silver policy, for an additional premium.
This is what’s covered
The costs of taking legal action due to:
- your death or personal injury
- a dispute over things you’ve bought or hired for your own private use
- an event that causes, or has the potential to cause, physical damage to your home
- an issue with your work contract.
The costs of defending legal action as a result of:
- goods you’ve sold to someone
- a motoring prosecution
It can also pay costs related to a formal enquiry by HMRC into your tax affairs.
What's not covered
However, there are a number of exclusions to this cover. For example, we don't cover legal proceedings arising from the ownership or occupation of your home in the first 180 days of your policy. Nor do we provide cover for a breach of your contract of employment in the first 90 days of your policy.
If, in the case of your death or personal injury, the legal action arises as a result of an accident involving a motor vehicle you were driving, we won’t pay.
In the case of defending a motoring prosecution - If you were driving a motor vehicle without a valid licence and/or insurance, we won't pay.
There are also legal events that are not covered at all including divorce, dissolution of registered civil partnerships and matrimonial matters, and claims for clinical negligence.
In addition whether a legal action can be pursued or not may rely on the claims prospects for success.
