Home Insurance testimonial by Sarah Bloss
Sarah Bloss was at home with her children when a fire started in the chimney. The smoke damage destroyed much of the contents of the house.
According to government stats there are around 40,000 dwelling fires in the UK.
Here’s Sarah’s story:

“I was just in the lounge one Sunday with the children,” she explains.
“It was just us at home. We were watching TV. We have a log-burner and out of the corner of my eye I started to see drops coming out of the chimney. I went up to the fireplace and peered up and all I could see was flames everywhere.”
The fire had already taken hold in the chimney. Sarah’s priority was to make sure her children were OK.
“It is amazing how quickly the smoke engulfed the lounge,” she says.
“The fire brigade came and it took them four or five hours to put the actual fire out. It was a Sunday, so we couldn’t really do anything, and my husband had to stay in the house. The fire brigade wanted someone there all night in case it caught fire again.”
They couldn’t live in their house and had to move to a hotel, but Legal & General’s claims process made the whole experience much easier.
“When you have to make a claim you instantly think the worst. You fear that it is just going to be so difficult, and we were completely proved wrong. I felt that they were genuinely concerned about our wellbeing.”
The first question they ask is, ‘Before we go into any detail, was anybody hurt? Is everybody okay?’ It just instantly put you at ease that they were a human at the end of the line.”
To her relief, the claims team helped Sarah and her husband understand the whole process and explained each step that would happen.
“They kept us completely informed throughout the whole process. We never had to phone and chase them.”
After the claim went through, Sarah felt relieved.
“I still talk to people about it all the time, always highly recommend Legal & General. Lots of people have horror stories, but mine is only positive.”
She says it is important to have home insurance, because without it their situation would have been much worse.
“It gives you complete peace of mind should the unthinkable happen.
I have great comfort in knowing that I have my house insured with Legal & General. You have just have got to pick the right company, and I was fortunate enough to do that.”
