Bill Hughes heads up an executive team of nine that lead a business of more than 150 people. Our people are diverse in nature and share a collaborative work ethic that fosters long term relationships across the markets we operate in.
Meet the team
Bill joined L&G in 2007 and is responsible for transforming its UK property fund management business into a global-reaching real assets platform. Operating in both the direct investment and lending markets, today it actively invests and manages over £23.2bn AUM across commercial property, private residential, infrastructure, property lending and corporate credit.
Since the beginning of 2015, L&G has worked closely with Government’s Regeneration Organisation to identify and invest in critical regeneration projects that support UK growth.
Bill previously held positions at RREEF, the Real Estate Fund Management business of Deutsche Bank, and Schroder Property Investment Management. From 2012 to 2015, Bill was part of the Presidential team at the British Property Federation.
He is currently Chair of the Property Industry Alliance (PIA), bringing together the UK’s leading property bodies to give them a stronger collective voice on issues such as policy, research and best practice. He also continues to play a role in Sir Michael Lyons’ Housing Review.
Michael is Director of Real Estate Fund Management at LGIM Real Assets with specific responsibility for the Fund Management platform.
Michael directly oversees a large number of client funds including the L&G With Profits and Shareholder Funds, Linked Funds and Segregated Mandates, LPI Income Fund, L&G Managed Property Fund and the L&G UK Property Unit Trust. Michael established the authorised L&G UK Property Unit Trust in February 2006 and remains the lead fund manager. He is also involved in the provision of innovative client solutions, new funds and real estate derivative strategies.
Michael joined the business in 2006 having previously been a Director AT F&C Property Asset Management and the lead fund manager for ISIS Property Trust and ISIS Property Trust 2.
Michael holds an honours degree in Land Economics, a post graduate diploma in Property Investment and is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS). Michael also chairs the ABI Property Group.
Gordon is Director of Real Estate Investment and Development at LGIM Real Assets and also sits on the Property Investment Committee. Gordon leads all fund investment activities both on and off market and advises on large investment acquisition and regeneration projects. He has been responsible for over £5.6bn of direct property acquisitions and fundings over the last two years.
Gordon also heads the Real Estate Development team which manages all direct developments, funding and major refurbishment projects across the platform.
Gordon joined the business in July 2009 having previously held the position of Chief Executive at Citygrove. Prior to this, Gordon was Head of Property Transactions at Deutsche Bank’s UK Property Fund Management Division.
Nicholas is Head of Private Credit Solutions with responsibility for LGIM’s private credit business comprising corporates, infrastructure and real estate.
Nicholas joined LGIM in January 2016 from RBS where he held a range of senior roles serving the financing needs of borrowers in Europe. Most recently he was Head of UK Corporate Coverage, and previously led the Corporate Debt Capital Markets businesses across both Investment Grade and Non-Investment Grade and Western Europe and CEEMEA regions.
Nicholas’ primary career focused on the private placement market working in both New York and London. He advised on a number of the ground breaking transactions for this market extending the size, maturity, sector and currency limitations that had constrained it. The team that Nicholas led at RBS brought more borrowers to the private market than any other over the past two decades and he is a regular speaker at industry events. Nicholas graduated from Durham University (BA) and London Business School (MBA).
Rob Martin is Director of Research for Real Assets at LGIM with responsibility for market research and strategy initiatives spanning direct real estate and infrastructure. He is a member of the Property and Private Credit Investment Committees and the Real Assets board. Rob joined LGIM in October 2006, prior to which he was Head of Research at Hammerson plc.
Rob is the Chair of the Investment Property Forum (IPF) Research Steering Group and a member of its Strategic Advisory Group. Rob has a degree in Economics & Economic History from the University of Warwick and is a CFA charterholder Division.
Andy Banks is Finance Director at LGIM Real Assets. He is the executive responsible for financial management, risk management, financial reporting and accounting, systems, financial planning and budgeting across both the real estate and private credit businesses.
Andy rejoined the business in July 2008 having originally joined in May 1999In early 2007, Andy joined the New Star Asset Management Group plc, where he spent 18 months as Chief Operating Officer for Property.
Paul Edwards is Director of Real Estate Asset Management at LGIM Real Assets responsible for The Industrial Property Investment Fund, The English Cities Fund and oversight of the property management and valuation functions. Paul is also a member of the Property Investment Committee.
Paul joined the business in 1990 as a Graduate Surveyor and became a Fund Manager in 1997, assuming responsibility for the Industrial Property Investment Fund at that time. He was promoted to Associate Director in 2006 and joined the Board in July 2008.
Paul is a Non-Executive Director of Raven Housing Trust. Paul is also a Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS), and holds an honours degree in Estate Management from Kingston University.
Katherine is Director and Head of Legal at LGIM Real Assets and joined the business in 2008 as the dedicated legal counsel. Katherine is responsible for advising the platform’s directors, fund managers and asset managers on all the legal aspects of property, fund and financing related matters. Katherine joined the Board in April 2014, demonstrating the importance the business places on its market leading transactional capabilities and best in class approach to compliance and fund structures.
Katherine was previously an in-house commercial lawyer at British Telecommunications where she worked closely with the property team on advising, negotiating and drafting legal documentation in respect of sales, purchases, property and facilities management, planning and environmental and regulatory issues.
Previous roles have included the position of Assistant Solicitor at Howard Kennedy Solicitors and barrister and solicitor at Walters Williams & Co. Katherine holds an LLB from Victoria University, Wellington, New Zealand.
