Meet the team
Bill Hughes was appointed Head of Real Assets, Legal & General Investment Management, in January 2015. In this role, Bill has overall responsibility for our property and infrastructure business, operating in both the direct investment and lending markets. He joined Legal & General in November 2007, originally as Managing Director of Legal & General Property, the third largest UK real estate investment manager.
Bill previously held the position of UK Head of Real Estate at RREEF, the Real Estate Fund Management business of Deutsche Bank. Prior to that Bill was Deputy Managing Director and Head of Research at Schroder Property Investment Management.
In July 2014, Bill became President of the British Property Federation (BPF), a membership organisation devoted to representing the interests of all those involved in real estate ownership and investment in the UK. He is also a member of the UK Green Building Council’s (UK-GBC) Board of Trustees. Additionally, Bill attends the Bank of England Commercial Property Forum and the Bank of England Residential Property Forum. He is a Member of Edinburgh University Investment Committee, an Associate of the Society of Investment Professionals and an Honorary Fellow of the College of Estate Management.
Michael is Director of Legal & General Property (LGP) with specific responsibility for the Fund Management Platform.
He directly oversees a large number of Client Funds including the L&G With Profits and Shareholder Funds, Linked Funds and Segregated Mandates, LPI Income Fund, L&G Managed Property Fund and the L&G UK Property Unit Trust. Michael established the authorised L&G UK Property Unit Trust in February 2006 and remains the Lead Manager. He is also involved more generally in the provision of innovative client solutions, new funds and real estate derivative strategies.
Michael joined Legal & General Property in 2006 having previously been a Director of F&C Property Asset Management and the Lead Fund Manager for ISIS Property Trust and ISIS Property Trust 2.
He holds an honours degree in Land Economics, a post graduate diploma in Property Investment and is a Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS). Michael also chairs the ABI Property Group.
Gordon has responsibility for supporting all Funds’ transaction activities both on and off market, advises on the company’s larger investment strategies and establishes new ventures. Gordon sits on the board of LGP and is also a member of LGP’s Investment Committee.
Gordon joined LGP in July 2009 having previously held the position of Chief Executive at Citygrove. He joined the company in May 2006 after eight years as Head of Property Transactions at RREEF Ltd, Deutsche Bank’s UK property fund management division. During this time he was responsible for the acquisition and development of over £1bn of commercial property throughout the UK.
Prior to RREEF Gordon spent three years in private practice and nine years at Guardian Properties where he was Director of Investment.
Nicholas is Head of Private Credit with responsibility for LGIM’s private credit business with a particular focus on corporates. Nicholas joined LGIM in January 2016 from RBS where he held a range of senior roles serving the financing needs of corporate borrowers in Europe. Most recently he was Head of UK Corporate Coverage, and previously led Debt Capital Markets businesses across both Investment Grade and Non-Investment Grade and Western Europe and CEEMEA regions. Nicholas’ primary career focused on the corporate private placement market working in both New York and London. He advised on a number of the ground breaking transactions for this market extending the size, maturity, sector and currency limitations that had constrained it. The private placement market is now larger than the Sterling Bond market. The team that Nicholas led brought more borrowers to the private market than any other over the past two decades and he is a regular speaker at industry events. Nicholas graduated from Durham University (BA) and London Business School (MBA).
Charles Walker is Director of Business Development at LGP. Charles joined the Board of LGP in 2011 to oversee the creation of new funds, joint ventures and client solutions. Charles is also responsible for the client relationship and marketing teams and is a member of the LGP Investment Committee.
Charles joined LGP in 2000 from private practice where he specialised in investment agency and fund management on behalf of charities and family trusts. During his career with LGP, he has been the Fund Manager of the Pooled Pension fund and a segregated pension fund. He remains Fund Manager of the close ended UK Property Income Fund.
Charles holds an honours degree in Land Management from Reading University and is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and Investment Property Forum.
Rob Martin is Director of Research at Legal & General Property (LGP) with responsibility for overseeing in-house forecasting and house views, the investment process, performance analysis and bespoke research projects. Rob is a member of the Investment Committee and sits on the Board of LGP.
Rob joined LGP in October 2006. Prior to this as, he worked for Hammerson plc in the position of Head of Research where he worked closely with the Board and Senior Management team on corporate, sector and asset strategies. Prior to Hammerson, Rob had a two-year spell at the CBI as a Senior Economist, following on from three years in the petroleum industry.
Rob has a degree in Economics & Economic History from the University of Warwick and is a CFA charterholder.
Andy is the executive responsible for financial management, risk management, fund reporting and accounting, systems, financial planning and budgeting across all LGP's client Funds.
Andy rejoined Legal & General Property in July 2008. Andy originally joined LGP in May, 1999 and was promoted to Finance Director of LGP in February, 2003. In early 2007 Andy joined the New Star Asset Management Group plc, where he spent 18 months as Chief Operating Officer for Property. Andy was involved with the set up and ongoing operations of the New Star International Property Fund as well as being responsible for the financial management and operations of the New Star Global Property Fund. Andrew is a fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants.
Paul Edwards is the Director responsible for LGP’s sector specialist Industrial Funds including the Industrial Property Investment fund and Arlington Business Park. He is also responsible for assessing investment opportunities for LGP within the industrial sector in Europe and overseeing the current and future corporate governance framework for LGP’s unlisted property fund structures. Paul joined Legal & General Property Limited in 1990 as a Graduate Surveyor.
Paul became a Fund Manager in 1997 assuming responsibility for the Industrial Property Investment Fund in December 1997. He was promoted to Associate Director in 2006 and Director in July 2008. Paul is a Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS), and holds an honours degree in Estate Management from Kingston University.
Katherine joined LGP in 2008 as the dedicated legal counsel. In this role she is responsible for advising the platform’s directors, fund managers and asset managers on all the legal aspects of property, fund and financing related matters. In April 2014 she was appointed to the Board of Directors, demonstrating the importance that L&G places on its market leading transactional capabilities and best in class approach to compliance and fund structures.
Prior to working at LGP, Katherine was an in-house commercial lawyer at British Telecommunications where she worked closely with the property team on advising, negotiating and drafting legal documentation in respect of sales, purchases, property and facilities management, planning and environmental and regulatory issues. Other previous roles have included the position of Assistant Solicitor at Howard Kennedy Solicitors and barrister and solicitor at Walters Williams & Co. Katherine holds an LLB from Victoria University, Wellington, New Zealand.
