Why will you no longer be called Legal & General?
Our General Insurance Business been bought by LV=GI, so the provider and underwriter of the policy, Legal & General Insurance Limited, has now been renamed Fairmead Insurance Limited. We’ll still service our customers under the Legal & General brand and you’ll still be speaking to the same people about your insurance.
Is my policy going to change?
No, your policy terms and conditions and what it covers won’t change.
Do I need to set up a new direct debit?
You don’t need to set up a new Direct Debit because details of the change have been provided to your bank. They might notify you independently.
Do I need to contact my bank?
No, there’s no need for you to contact your bank as the details of the change have been provided to them. They may also notify you independently and the name on your bank account will automatically change to Fairmead / L&G.
Will the amount I pay change?
No, there are no changes to the amount you’ll pay due to the change in ownership. However, if you’ve recently made a change to your policy or received your renewal invitation, please check your documents.
What do I need to do?
Don’t worry, you don’t need to do anything. Your policy terms and conditions remain the same.
When will you be changing to Fairmead Insurance Limited?
From 1st January 2020.
Will I receive any new documentation?
You won't receive any new documentation until shortly before your renewal date, when you will receive an email or letter from us with details of your renewal. Make sure you keep hold of your current Legal & General policy documents until you renew.
Am I still protected by the direct debit guarantee?
Yes, the Guarantee is still valid and remains the same. Further details can be found on the letter we've sent to you.
Does this affect my other Legal & General policies?
This only affects Home Insurance, Landlords, Lifestyle, Mortgage Payment Protection and Pet policies. Any other policies with Legal & General are not affected.
I recently cancelled my policy why have you sent me this letter?
All customers who had a direct debit in force in November 2019 were written to. We apologise if you've received this letter after cancelling your policy.
Why haven't you told me about the change?
Your policy cover and terms and conditions will stay the same despite this change. We’re contacting our customers who have a Direct Debit with us, to let them know of the change and all customers will have details included in their renewal invitation.
Will this affect me if I need to make a claim?
No, our Claims process hasn't changed.
Will this affect my existing claim?
No, our Claims process hasn't changed.
If I call you, will I be speaking to Legal & General?
Yes, you'll be speaking to the same people, however, Legal & General have been renamed to Fairmead Insurance Limited and are now part of the Liverpool Victoria General Insurance Group.
Do I get a refund if I cancel my policy?
You can cancel your policy at any time by calling the relevant number below:
Gold and Silver customers if you have a policy number starting with DUHHS please call 0370 060 0227
Extra and Essentials customers if you have a policy number starting with DUESS or DUXRA please call 0370 900 3110
Extra and Essentials customers if you have a policy number starting with DUHHS please call 0370 900 0201
If you cancel this policy within 14 days of the start date or renewal date, or after you received your policy documents, whichever is later, we’ll refund you for the period of unused cover.
If you decide you don’t want this policy after 14 days of the start date or renewal date, or after you receive your policy documents, whichever is later and you’ve not made a claim, we’ll charge you for the period that we have provided cover to you.
If you have made a claim during the period of insurance, then you’ll have to pay the full annual premium and you won’t receive a refund.
