What does our Landlords Insurance cover?
Our Landlords Buildings and Contents cover can help protect your property against certain unforeseen events such as:
- Loss or damage caused by fire, storm or flood, escape of water and theft
For an additional premium you can add the following options:
- Accidental damage or malicious damage by tenants
- Legal expenses, rent guarantee and eviction of squatters cover

Our insurance doesn't cover things like general wear and tear or damage that happens gradually over a period of time.
What's covered under Buildings on a Landlords policy?
Our Buildings insurance covers loss or damage to the structure of the property, for example, to walls, permanent fixtures and fittings, gates and fences, drives and hedges, all sited within the boundaries of the land belonging to the home, but excluding tenants improvements.

Do you accept multiple tenancy agreements?
No, for online purchases we'll only accept single tenancy agreements. If you purchase a policy via the telephone with us, then we may accept multiple tenants, provided the tenants are all on one tenancy agreement and otherwise acceptable to us.
What does legal expenses, rent guarantee and eviction of squatters cover?
For an additional premium you can be covered for:
Cover is provided for irrecoverable costs and fees to pursue or defend claims involving breach of tenancy agreement.
Cover is provided for unpaid rent in excess of one month up to 12 months or until vacant possession is gained, whichever happens first. Once vacant possession is obtained and your property is in a suitable condition to be re-let, benefit will continue to be paid at a rate of 50% of the monthly rent, for a further 3 months, or until the property is re-let, whichever happens first.
Eviction of Squatters
To negotiate for your legal rights to evict anyone who is not your tenant or ex-tenant from your property and who doesn't have permission to be there.
Claims are handled for us by DAS Legal Expenses Insurance Company Limited.
What's an excess?
The excess is the amount you must pay towards each and every claim.
The excesses are shown on your policy schedule and/or by endorsement. Information relating to the excess, escape of water and subsidence, heave and landslip excess can be found in the Landlords Insurance Product Information Document.
We want you to understand how much you'll have to pay in the event of a claim, so if you need any help or guidance, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
Am I covered for wear and tear?
No, as with most insurance policies, Landlords Insurance isn't designed to cover wear and tear and maintenance costs such as, loose roof tiles and damage that happens over time, like damp, rot and damage from vermin.
Do you offer cover for multiple properties?
For online purchases, we'll only insure one property at a time and no discount will be applied. We'll insure multiple properties under one policy, with a discount based on portfolio size, via the telephone.

Can I be covered immediately?
Yes, you can be covered immediately. When you apply online or call in, you'll be asked when you'd like to start your policy.
How do I make a claim?
We take pride in the claims service we offer to our customers and believe it should be as straightforward as possible. How do I renew my policy?

What happens if i've changed my mind?
You may cancel your policy at any time.
- If you cancel this policy within 14 days of the start date or renewal date, or after you receive your policy documents, whichever is later, we'll refund you for the period of unused cover.
- If you decide you don’t want this policy after 14 days of the start date or renewal date, or after you receive your policy documents, whichever is later and you've not made a claim, we'll charge you for the period that we've provided cover to you.
- If you've made a claim during the period of insurance then you'll have to pay the full annual premium, so you won’t receive a refund.
How can I find out more information about what's covered by my policy?
Where do I record my previous claims history?
Within our quote application under the 'Your cover - Previous claims and losses' section, you’ll be asked for the ‘Number of current consecutive claims-free years on your buildings and contents insurance’.
Your answer to this question will allow us to establish your no claims discount entitlement. If you've had any claims or losses whether insured or not, in the last three years, please enter the details on the 'About your property' page.
Can I save a quote and come back to it at a later date?
Yes, once your quote has been displayed, you can choose to save your quote and it will be valid for up to 30 days. We'll then store your quote, so you can go back to it. In order to go back to your quote, you’ll need to enter the reference number we give you, your date of birth and the postcode.
How do I retrieve a quote?
When you save a quote, we will provide you with a reference number which remains valid for 30 days. Simply click on the link ‘Go back to your saved quote’ and you'll be asked to enter your reference number, postcode and date of birth. These details will then enable us to retrieve your quote for you.
How long are quotes valid for?
If you decide to save your quote, we guarantee your quote for 30 days on the understanding that all of your details are accurate and correct. We'll then store your quote, so you can go back to it. In order to go back to your quote, you’ll need to enter the reference number we give you, your date of birth and the postcode.
Can I apply and pay for my Landlords Insurance over the phone?
Yes, just give us a call on 0800 092 9922. Our UK call centres are open 8am to 8pm Monday to Thursday, 8am to 6pm Friday and 9am to 5pm on Saturday. We may record and monitor calls.
How can I pay for my Landlords Insurance?
You can choose to pay monthly by direct debit, or annually by debit or credit card. Please note that if you choose to pay by direct debit, the payment will include an 8.5% interest charge.
What protection do I have under the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS)?
We’re covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS). You may be entitled to compensation from the scheme if we cannot meet our obligations. Whether or not you’re able to claim and how much you may be entitled to will depend on the specific circumstances at the time.
