Mental health, musculoskeletal, covid and cancer
Please complete the online Absence notification form within 6 weeks of the first date of absence. The employee should have been absent for at least 4 weeks in a row.
Other illnesses and injuries
Please complete the online Absence notification form within 10 weeks of the first date of absence. The employee should have been absent for at least 8 weeks in a row.
We’ll need to know:
- Details about the employer
- Details about the employee
- Why they’re absent from work
- Their employment details and their earnings
Employee contacted
When we receive the Absence notification form we’ll follow up with the employee about their absence. They may find our Help is at Hand (770kb pdf) guide useful.
Vocational rehabilitation
We may then refer the employee to our in-house clinical team to discuss what support we can provide and to help them return to work.
A full range of vocational rehabilitation services is available including support for mental health problems, work related stress, musculoskeletal issues, covid and cancer.
Income payments
In some cases, an employee may not be able to return to work before the end of the deferred period. When this happens, provided medical information supports the absence and the claim meets the definition of incapacity on the policy, we'll start to pay benefits monthly in arrears to the employer.
Ongoing support
We'll continue to review the employee’s condition regularly to make sure the claim continues to meet the definition of incapacity on the policy and to understand if any support can be provided to help them return to work.
