Refer areas and security

The agent cannot proceed with the quotation because the postcode for the property to be insured is situated within a buildings ‘refer’ area.

Occasionally, if you are using quotation systems, you may be faced with a refer or security message.

When this occurs you will need to follow this process.

Buildings refer area:

  1. The agent accesses the system and inputs if either buildings only cover or buildings and contents cover is required for a client.
  2. The agent cannot proceed with the quotation because the postcode for the property to be insured is situated within a buildings ‘refer’ area.
  3. The agent contacts the new business support team at Legal & General on: 0370 900 8829
  4. Lines are open from 8am to 8pm, Monday to Friday and from 9am to 1pm on a Saturday. Calls are charged at national rate and for your protection we may record and monitor calls.
  5. A member of the new business support team goes through the quotation and supplementary buildings proposal questions subject to, in some cases a mortgage valuation report and/or surveyor’s report with the agent and advises him/her of the premium. Documentation will be issued to agent and client.
  6. The policy is completed once the start date is confirmed.

    Contents refer area:

For certain postcode sectors we require locks, bolts and other forms of security to be fitted in accordance with our minimum standards of security. They can be either good quality locks or a burglar alarm maintained by an installer approved by the NSI (National Security Inspectorate) or SSAIB (Security Systems and Alarms Inspection Board).
