Information Gathering
The Information Gathering rules give details of what can be accepted from the agent or applicant over the telephone and what information can only be accepted on sight of the life assured's signature and date.
These rules apply to all business channels.
All underwriting related information must be signed and dated by the applicant. If the correct underwriting questions have not been answered, signed and dated confirmation from the client is required.
The following information can be provided by client or advisor by telephone, signed fax or secure (encrypted) e-mail (i.e. not by hotmail or similar account):
- Acceptance of adverse terms (rating, exclusions etc)
- Any information from the ‘’about you’’ section (other than smoker status, number of cigarettes smoked each day, hazardous pursuits, date of birth and residence abroad
- Confirmation that CIC/TIC/Waiver/Indexation/Conversion/ Guaranteed or Reviewable premiums required but not if declined as a result of underwriting
- Confirmation of deferred period on IPB or MPI
- Confirmation of own or FATs definition
- Confirmation of Level or Decreasing term assurance
- Decreases in sum assured and/or policy term
- Increases in sum assured and/or policy term (DOH may be required)
- Mortgage or loan details / lenders name
- National Insurance Number (Agents)
- Policy start date
- Premium frequency
- Reason for policy
- Sum assured/term (if there is no other indication of the correct sum assured or term on the application, signed and dated confirmation from the client is required)
- Verification of bank account details
The following information must be provided by the client and must be signed and dated:

- All medical information
- Date of birth (documentary evidence is not required)
- Financial evidence
- Hazardous pursuits
- Height and weight details
- Occupation details and duties
- MPI employment details and related questions
- Removing a life from a new business application. If one life is declined, only the signature of the accepted life is required. If one life is postponed the signature of the accepted life or the advisor is required
- Removing CIC from a new business application following CIC’s declinature as a result of underwriting
- Residency and travel information
- Signature(s), including ownership of benefits
- Smoker status / Number of cigarettes smoked per day
