What is a Cash Target Date Fund?
Cash Target Date Funds (also known as Cash TDFs) can help grow your pension savings. They carefully manage the way your savings are invested up to, and beyond, a target date.
This date is usually when you plan to start accessing your pension savings. Cash Target Date Funds target a retirement period shown in years in the fund name.
Your selected retirement date usually falls into that period. For example, if you plan to retire in 2042, you’ll be invested in the “L&G PMC 2040-2045 Cash Target Date Fund”.
So, it’s important for you to review your retirement age to make sure it matches your current plans.
Cash TDFs invest in a range of different investments, such as stocks, bonds and cash markets.
The aim is to grow your pension savings when you’re young and protect them as you approach retirement. But investment success isn't guaranteed, and values can decrease as well as increase.
How are they different to other Target Date Funds?
Whereas our other target date funds have been designed to give you the flexibility to use your pension savings either in full or in part and at a time that suits you.
Although it’s considered an appropriate choice for most members, the default investment option doesn’t take into account your personal circumstances or future plans. With this in mind, given that you can make your own investment decisions, it’s worth considering whether it’s currently the right place for your pension savings to be invested.
