Life cover
Life cover for Leeds Building Society customers from Legal & General.
Our products
Life Insurance
From £6 a month
Help protect your loved ones with life insurance. It could pay out a cash sum if you die while covered by the policy. The cash sum could be used to:
- Help pay off the mortgage; or
- Help financially protect your family.
Decreasing Life Insurance
From £6 a month
Decreasing Life Insurance is designed to help protect a repayment mortgage so the amount of cover reduces roughly in line with the way a repayment mortgage decreases. Meaning your loved ones could continue to live in the family home without worrying about the mortgage.
Critical Illness Cover
Critical Illness Cover can be added for an extra cost when you take out Life Insurance or Decreasing Life Insurance. It could pay out a cash sum if you’re diagnosed or undergo a medical procedure for one of the specified critical illnesses covered during the length of the plan.
- In 2023, we paid out 93% of claims.
- We paid out £255 million, helping more than 3500 people.

Important information
Please remember that life insurance is not a savings or investment product and has no cash value unless a valid claim is made.
If your life insurance is to cover your mortgage, your policy may not completely pay off your outstanding mortgage unless you ensure that your amount of cover is adjusted to match any new mortgage arrangements. You must also check that the interest rate applied to your mortgage does not become higher than the interest rate applied to your policy.
For critical illness cover, some types of cancer are not included and to make a claim for some illnesses, you need to have permanent symptoms.
