About us
We aim to create high-quality homes and provide an exceptional service as an institutional landlord
Who we are
We are owned by Legal & General, with 20 years of expertise in housing across the Legal & General Group.
As a leading direct investor, developer, and operator in residential property, Legal & General have one of the largest and most diverse residential platforms in the UK and have successfully scaled up multiple operating businesses across a range of tenures, building houses to sell and rent, providing lively retirement communities, and finding new ways to deliver affordable housing.
Legal & General take a socially orientated investment approach, with a commitment to delivering the housing that our society needs to address structural shortages across every dimension of the market.
Suburban Build to Rent (SBTR) was launched to develop large-scale ‘single family’ rental communities in suburban locations across the UK.
SBTR’s housing schemes are community-focused and service-led, offering residents choice, stable tenancies, and flexibility − a level of offering widely unavailable in the broader residential market.
What we do
We invest in delivering high-quality rental homes in the private rental sector with a focus on suburban areas of the UK.
We partner with housebuilders to bring forward large-scale sites.
At SBTR, we have also set up a Healthy Communities Committee, which includes learnings from the NHS Healthy New Towns programme, to support health and wellbeing throughout the communities we create. The committee aims to work with Legal and General’s SBTR developer partners to ensure that all homes and communities are designed to support health and wellbeing.
