What is a Digital Home Survey?
Digital Home Survey is a revolutionary, fully digital home buyer report, bespoke to Legal & General.
A RICS-qualified surveyor will check the property from top to bottom before sending you a comprehensive and easy-to-understand digital report, usually within 48 hours from the inspection. During the inspection the surveyor will look over the roof, walls, pipes, timber, and other aspects of the house making sure everything’s in order. You’ll receive a digital report straight to your computer or smartphone with any issues graded on a traffic-light scale of importance.
If any defects or issues are uncovered during the survey, you will be able to find tradespeople to cost any repairs directly from within the digital report. You can choose to use trade quotes to renegotiate with the seller, should you wish to do so. The Digital Home Survey report has sharp layout with clear, understandable visual details free of lengthy, confusing documents. One huge benefit of choosing this type of survey is the ease in which you can read and digest the report.

Digital Home Survey details
What's featured in the survey?
Order a survey online and a RICS qualified surveyor conducts and records an assessment of the property on their tablet.
Using start-to-finish digital technology, a surveyor will send the report straight back to your computer or digital device in a couple of days, not weeks.
After all, we know that when purchasing a house, no one wants to be waiting unnecessary time for a report to be completed.
What you’ll learn from your Digital Home Survey
Our RICS surveyor will have a broad knowledge of your chosen area, types of local property, and issues to look out for. You can trust their detailed assessment to give you confidence by being completely sure of what you’re buying.
During the inspection the surveyor will look over the roof, walls, pipes, timber, and other aspects of the house making sure everything’s in order. The report will also include:
- Legal considerations like planning permission and building regulations which you can share with your solicitor.
- Environmental concerns including smells, electricity pylons and flight paths.
- Health hazards, like asbestos.
- An inspection of boilers and electrics to check if test certificate updates are available or needed.
Our Digital Home Survey process
You're in safe hands
Buying a home is probably the biggest investment you ever make, so you’ll want a true picture of its condition right from the start.
Mortgage valuations are not the same as house surveys. Lenders conduct basic checks to verify the property’s value, but that’s usually all.
A thorough, professional survey identifying any issues early on will save you time and money – that’s where the Digital Home Survey comes in.
A Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS)-qualified surveyor will check the property from top to bottom before sending you a comprehensive and easy-to-understand digital report, usually the next day.
They’ll look over the roof, walls, pipes, timber and others aspects of the house making sure everything’s in order.
While we hope not to find anything too problematic, identifying issues at this stage allows you to make an informed decision on what’s next.
We’ll help find tradespeople to cost any repairs and you can use their quotes to renegotiate with the seller.
Investing in a Digital Home Survey will give you peace of mind and put you in control on your journey to your new home.
Choosing the right survey for you
What’s the difference between a Digital Home Survey and a RICS Home Survey Level 2 (previously known as Homebuyer report)?
In the past, the only way to find out about your new property was to have a RICS Home Survey Level 2 (Homebuyer report). However, times have changed, and technology has enabled us to develop a new digital type of report, still produced by the same RICS qualified surveyors, but much faster. Gone are the days where the surveyor had to go back to their office and type up a report before posting it to you. Now you can expect a Digital Home Survey to be sent straight to your smart device in a far quicker and user-friendly fashion.
When considering which survey is right for you, not only do you have to consider how quickly you want to receive the survey, but also how much support you can expect along the way. Digital Home Survey is a visual report, which records images of the inspected areas and any potential issues. If you choose to act on any of the report's findings, you can send the images to your conveyancer or tradesperson of choice directly from the Digital Home Survey report, without having to wait for lengthy call out times, saving even more of your time!
