Our partnership with Lewis Pugh, UN Patron of the Oceans

We are proud to announce a global partnership with endurance swimmer and environmental campaigner, Lewis Pugh. Lewis’ swims highlight the precarious state of our natural world and he has witnessed first-hand the damaging effects of climate change. He is calling on all nations to cut their emissions significantly, and to protect 30% of the world’s oceans by 2030. An urgent mission that we fully support.

In September 2021 Lewis successfully completed a swim across the world’s fastest moving glacier, the Illulissat Icefjord in Greenland.

Lewis covered the 7.8-kilometre distance in 14 sessions over 12 days, in water temperatures between 0-3 degrees C. This was by far the most challenging swim of his career.

The water and weather conditions during the swim were incredibly challenging, with Lewis having to navigate a number of large, grounded icebergs and brash ice in near-freezing waters.

His focus throughout this extraordinary challenge was to highlight the rapid melting of the Greenland Ice Sheet and the speed of climate crisis, while also calling for 30% of the world’s oceans to be protected to help slow the effects of climate change.
