Statement of Investment Principles
How we make sure that the Mastertrust invests your savings appropriately
The Trustees of the Legal & General Mastertrust are required by law to prepare a ‘Statement of Investment Principles’ to set out their investment strategy as well as an ‘Implementation Statement’ which sets out how, and the extent to which, the Trustees believe the Statement of Investment Principles has been followed during the scheme year.
The Statement of Investment Principles sets out the Trustees’ investment policy and what they hope to achieve from the investments they choose. It includes information on the following:
- The Trustees’ investment beliefs
- The aims and objectives for the default investment arrangements
- The aims and objectives for investment options outside the default arrangement
- Risks and policies
- Governance and operational framework
- Who’s who? – a summary of all the parties involved in managing or advising the Mastertrust

The Implementation Statement reflects on our performance against the principles set out in the Statement of Investment Principles throughout the scheme year. It includes information on the following:
- the Trustees' review of the Statement of Investment Principles
- any changes made to the Statement of Investment Principles
- a review of the voting behaviour carried out by investment managers on the Trustees' behalf
