  • The solicitor must be regulated. We verify all solicitors' credentials with the Law Society of Northern Ireland.
  • If we are unable to verify your solicitor, we will require the original Power of Attorney document instead.

You will need to attach the Overseas Power of Attorney documentation at the end of this form in order for your request to be submitted.

We understand the limitations of overseas post, therefore we can accept an emailed copy of the document, providing this has been certified on each page by an appropriate professional (e.g. Solicitor or Notary).

  • We must have all pages of the original Power of Attorney or a certified Power of Attorney bearing the signature of the verified individual (Solicitor/Notary) who has certified the document on every page.
  • If the Power of Attorney has been written in another language, it must be accompanied by a full English translation - bearing the signature of the verified individual who has translated the document.
  • We required ID documents for all named attorney(s) confirming full name, address and date of birth (if the ID has a sample of their signatures, this would be beneficial).

Should any further requirements arise, we will contact you within the next 10 working days.

 

If you have a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) registered after 1st January 2016 you can provide us with the ‘LPA access code’ which will allow us to view a summary of the LPA online.

Why provide an LPA code? 

Using an LPA access code can significantly reduce the time it takes for us to review and add a Power of Attorney to a customers policy.

If you do not wish to obtain a code, we will work to review your paperwork as soon as possible, however it can take up to 30 days if we need to validate any information with the Office of Public Guardian.
